The Lego Modular series has been a great hit for the company.Taking the concept of the highly detailed Creator models, beefing them up in piece count and size, adding minifigs and allowing them to be joined together has attracted many older Lego collectors to the line. The Fire Brigade is the last release for 2009 and adds to the three models already released; Market Street, Cafe Corner and Green Grocer.Like other sets in this series the model is made to fit along a main street diorama, so the building comes complete with a segment of shiny sidewalk out the front. Its a beautiful looking building, no surprises there, and it is nice to see a Lego station that isn't all windows or open spaces as the regular line tends to be.This is the first set of this kind to also feature a vehicle, in this case a fire engine modelled after a 1930's fire truck.Like all the modular buildings the set is designed so that the roof and each successive floor is detachable so you can access each level of the station to play and customise.Like the Green Grocer before it, this set has the beginning of playability inside with a ping pong table for bored firemen to bide their time and a fully stocked fridge in the kitchen.Other details include fire-fighting tools, racks for the firemen's helmets, a fire-pole, couch, bookshelf and a roof with a water tower and bell. The set measures 14" (35 cm) high and 10" (25 cm) wide and with over 2200 pieces it is recommended for building by ages 16+.As with most sets in Lego's range, experienced younger builders could build this with a little patience and consideration. If you have the other modular sets its a great addition but would happily serve as the first one on your new Main Street.

This special anniversary set comes complete with a letter from Lego owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, the grandson of Lego's founder. The company's "belief in the unlimited possibilities of play" and dedication to producing the best possible toys is highlighted by this huge, intricate set.
Redesigned to include modern bricks and details, this 1950's town center includes a gas station with a car wash, a movie theatre, and the town hall building. There are eight Lego mini-figures, classic cars, corner light fixtures, and a fountain to place in the town square. Collectors are sure to notice the inclusion of unique Lego elements and bricks in rare colors.
Bringing the Town to Life
With 35 bags containing 1,981 pieces and two large instruction booklets, the Town Plan set took our eight-year-old Lego tester about 12 hours to build. Like with all Lego sets, the instructions include here provide colorful step-by-step images that make it fairly easy for any diligent builder to create the detailed town buildings and vehicles. We did have about 20 left-over pieces at the end of construction, which puzzled our tester.
While it may seem like this mature set is designed to appeal to adults, our young tester immediately found lots of different ways to have fun with it. The cinema got a big thumbs up for having cool, realistic details like popcorn at the concession stand and a movie on the screen. The moving garage door and the scrubbers in the car wash were big hits, too.
The rooms inside Town Hall are a little small, which limits Lego figures who want to move around. This pushed lots of play out into the open area around the fountain. The three gold bricks in the fountain add a unique touch to this particular set. The one minor complaint that surfaced in our testing was that the flowers and vegetation "planted" around the Town Hall failed to stay securely attached when moving pieces around.
Overall, this is an expansive town set that promises lots of creative construction projects. With so many people and buildings, and more than one vehicle, this Town is a great pick for a single creative builder or cooperative play with friends and siblings. Additionally, with its unique 1950's vibe, this town is set to inspire fun, interactive play between parents or grandparents and kids. Odds are, you'll even find yourself driving the vintage car through the wash after your children have gone to bed--it's that cool.

My son is 10 and has a short attention span and some LD issues but he really wanted to do this. He had done a Star Wars set but it was too "fussy" for him. In the "Town Plan" they divide the parts into numbered bags for each building and related parts, but there is still plenty of time searching for parts--just not so much time that you get frustrated. We put the related parts on paper plates so they wouldn't keep getting bumped off the table. My son worked on this a little every night (I helped look for parts), and he could easily follow the page by page instructions himself. He liked building something that was a replica of the original and he got a lot of encouragement to continue from seeing each section completed. (It's a big deal for him to finish something.) Sorry the photo isn't very good; we want to make something with roads for underneath, and we bought an extra set of "Town" people to add to it because my son loves to play with... This review is from: LEGO Town Plan (Toy) This lego set was a nice challenge for our sons to build. The 8 year old could build most of it himself but needed a little help from older brother and dad. Great buildings, nice assortment of pieces, is definitely one of the favorite sets ever worked on as rated by the kids. 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful By = Durability: This review is from: LEGO Town Plan (Toy) The Lego Town Plan is the coolest Lego set I've seen in years. This set is what helped me decide to collect Lego's again, after being a huge Lego Maniac back in the 1980's. I can't help but think about how much fun I would have had with this set as a kid. What you get is well worth the money spent. We're not talking huge buildings here, but you really can't go wrong, and would be a great start (or addition) to any Lego Town. The retro design is so cool, it looks like they come right out of the 50's! I'd say out of the three buildings, the gas station is the one with the most play value. The detachable gas pump island allows you to place the pumps anywhere, although it would have been cool to have them be more stationary so they aren't in the middle of the road...etc. The garage is cool, comes with a sliding garage door and a bunch of tools, as well as the car wash (only smaller cars will fit in the garage and car wash). The snack shop comes with food in a display... Read more |

He had more fun putting it together than any other gift I've seen him received. He loved the realistic details. It is very well crafted and has a sturdy display stand for such a large item. This plane will be with us for many years to come. A+ to the Lego Dreamliner 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful By Half-Kilby (Charleston, South Carolina, USA) - See all my reviews = Durability: This review is from: LEGO Make & Create Boeing 787 Dreamliner (Toy) I got this with my birthday money, and although it's 80 bucks (or 80 Bolivias as my mom would say), it is well worth it. I haven't had any problems with it falling apart that weren't my fault. I'd just say to make sure and check up on the stand every once in a while to make sure that no pieces have popped out or anything. Although I was anticipating it to be huge, it was still bigger than I expected, and looked extremely realistic. It was so much fun to build (I couldn't stop), and it wasn't repetitive or monotonous. Overall, I'd say that nearly everything (the wings are a little bit droopy) is perfect about this model, and I would strongly suggest it. It's massive too, so make sure you've got room for it. 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful = Durability: Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: LEGO Make & Create Boeing 787 Dreamliner (Toy) Very nicely done. It's bigger than I thought it would be. Excellent directions. It would be nice if the parts for each step came out of the same bag instead of having to open every bag and have all those parts to sort through. I also wish it had landing gear. The stand is nice, but I'd like the option of displaying on it's gear. The engines are good, but could be alot better. But, it's just plane awesome to see it finished. I still give it 5 stars and 2 thumbs up. |
